Located 170 km north of Agadir surrounded by ramparts, it is called the city of the winds. Its white Medina with blue doors and windows is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Essaouira continue to inspire many artists and international film makers, and the city is often used as a film location. Orson Welles'othello was the first foreign feature film shot in Essaouira in 1952.
